It was raining in Their realm. Completely vertically. Every other droplet bounced off Karou while the other sank in, giving him an almost white outline while soaking him.
It never rained there. In all his years of living there, it had only rained when he asked Chiyo to show him rain.

He continued walking, over his shock at the rain. A glowing, curved dagger appeared in his left hand, light blue designs glowing in the slate metal. He was committing suicide.
If he could even cut Yuuki before she killed him, it would be amazing. He wanted her to pay. She... she hated him. Karou was perfectly fine with that; he hated the bitch, too. But she let someone innocent fade away because she was too angry with him. She had failed as a deity of any kind. And Karou's mission was to rectify it.

It couldn't fail. If he died, she couldn't be angry anymore- at least, not at him. And he wouldn't be able to miss her anymore.
Before, anyone else would have said this was raw teen angst. Suicide because of wild emotions. And they would have been right. For the longest time, Karou had been anything but rational. He understood that now.

Gods were not meant to live among humans. Nothing good could come of it. The same could be said about those with God-like powers. Karou had done no service to the world. He had no regrets. It was just time to make things right.
He'd rather not die, honestly. He knew nothing would await him. But he had to do this. And he knew that, by doing this, he would be killed. That was the very end result, no matter what.

After six minutes in the rain, Karou's hair was plastered to his face and his clothes were several hues darker than normal.
There was no use in walking, his rationality told him. This world didn't end, nor did it have paths. If They wanted him to talk to Them, They would appear. There was no 'catching Them off guard'. It would be a better idea to conserve his energy. But to stand still was to get angry. With anger came power, yes, but at the cost of blindness.
If he rushed at her, utterly blind, she would win in the end. He would not let that happen. He was going to die on his own terms. With any hope, she would go down with him.

Just as quickly as the rain started, it stopped.
Rather, it may not have stopped. Karou was just in a new place. Hikari stared him down, amber eyes glowing with unworldly power.

"... Why are you here?" Her voice was so close to Taka's. Karou almost smiled, locking eyes with the goddess.

"Where's my dad?" A chunk of Karou's hair hung over his face, dripping water onto his nose steadily.

"No idea."

"How helpful."

"He's probably with Yuuki, though." Hikari hissed, eyes narrowing.
"... You shouldn't do that." Her eyes traveled to Karou's left hand, where the dagger materialized once more.

"... And why not?"

"You've got to get over the past."
Stop telling me what I already know.
"I don't see why you're so... upset."

"Yuuki let her fade. She--"

"Yuuki did what we have done for hundreds of years before your birth, and will do for the remainder of our existence. There has been not one instance, Karou, that we have forced a resting spirit back to the living. Would you like to know why?"

"You know that mopey bullshit you've done since Dahlia died? Pack that into one human life. Multiply it by the number of loved ones that a human usually loses. And then, Karou, add in the stress that you've never felt before. Working to the bone and not having food to eat. Actually fearing for your life. Having no control over something astronomically important.

"The people who die... they do not remain dead forever. They rest. They recover from Life. And then they go back in. And, unconsciously, they are the same person.

"Can you even comprehend that? How long has Dahlia been dead? She could have had dozens of lives, looking for you and not knowing it. She could have been that girl you killed because you just needed to be alone.

"She could have been the girl you whored out until she met her death at a rapist. She could be someone clinging to you, despite all the shit you've put them though.

"But you can't understand that, can you?

"You're so wrapped up in your little revenge story... you may have rejected Dahlia each and every time she tried to find you again.

"And now? You're coming to kill yourself? Except you want to glorify it with revenge, don't you? That's why you stole my knife. You want to go down feeling like a hero.

"If you don't understand it now, with everything revealed to you, you never will. Dahlia, as you knew her, will never come back. You will never see her face again. Trying to kill Yuuki will do absolutely nothing. You'll just look like a damn fool, like your father.

"And then you'll die a dog's death. And it will have no worth. Your father will die a little bit more inside, Chiyo will be upset for a few years... and that's it. None of us will miss you. We have no positive feelings for a fool.

"Just... go back. Living forever down there is a curse. I understand that. But, just try to be happy. If you just try, I'm sure someone like you can manage. Stop wallowing in this shit you like to wrap around yourself. Find, or, rather, figure out your new Dahlia. Although I shouldn't say so, she's closer than you think.

"She said she'd never leave you. She said that nearly a thousand years ago, Karou. And she's kept to that as best she could. You're the one that let her down.

"Give me back my knife and end this fruitless grudge for good."
I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT.

This is an amazing piece. Don't ever doubt yourself ever again.

Don't even dare to say it's bad because it isn't and it never will be.
